How to participate

What do you need to participate in Nest Quest? 

1. Curiosity and excitement about nature and the outdoors. This project requires you to spend a lot of time outside. Having an interest in plants and insects certainly helps! 

2. Time. A Nest Quest survey takes about 30 minutes to complete. You are welcome to do as many Nest Quest's as you would like and whatever is within your capacity. We recommend doing 2 surveys a month from June to August, for a total of 3 hours of active surveying 

3. Internet access. You will need internet access to share your habitat and bumble bee nesting data. If you do not have home internet, find a public library near you for free internet access.

How to participate in Nest Quest?

2. Adopt a grid cell. Visit our Sign Up Page to adopt a grid.

3. Review protocols. Our Protocols Page details all the steps to take to complete your Quest.

Who can participate in Nest Quest?

Everyone who can observe, pay attention, and concentrate for 20 minutes is welcome to participate. We do not have a lower age limit as this quality varies a lot among people. You will set up an area that you survey in. If you have issues with accessibility, our hope is that you can find suitables areas that are accessible for you. Please reach out Nest Quest staff if there are accessibility issues that are preventing you from participating.
