UPDATE as of February 25th, 2026: 

Nest Quest 2026 has launched statewide with adapted protocols. Volunteers in 2024-2025 will remember doing 1 hour, meandering surveys. In 2026, we are shifting to a more fine scale protocol with stationary, 20 minute surveys. Soon, we will be opening up our "Grid Adoption Form", which is how you will sign up for your Nest Quest surveys in 2026.

How do I sign up as a Nest Quest volunteer? 

Nest Quest uses a grid cell model to track participation, much like the Bumble Bee Atlas. 

You can join Nest Quest by adopting a grid cell, which is your pledge to complete a minimum of 6, 20-minute Nest Quests between June and August. 

Step 1: Choose your grid cell

Use the map below to find which grid cell you'd like to survey. 

In choosing your grid cell, remember that you will choose a site where you have permission to survey, can establish a 5x5 meter plot, and can easily access from June through August.

Step 2: Adopt your grid cell by filling out the form

Fill out the form below to let us know what grid cell you will be adopting.

Step 3: Check your email for a confirmation

After you adopt your grid cell, you will receive a confirmation email with important reminders about the project.
